reunion 11

July 31, 1999.

One of the few clear and hot days to grace Seattle that summer, and Neal Degner brought his video camera along, just in case something at the reunion in Warren G. Magnuson park was worth keeping for posterity.

Turns out there was, though it may not have seemed like much at the time. Simply hearing the voices of shipmates sharing a little about themselves and what happened since they left the Bates is pretty impressive indeed, looking back today from nearly twenty years in the future.

Even though it's not HD, there is a poignancy in the memories of sailors talking about their time on the boat, already twenty years in the past when the video was made. It may make you feel old, but it makes me remember...

...we were submariners once, and young...
