Subscriptions and subscribers are related to either Familygrams or the Scuttlebutt forum.

The first is under Familygrams. This can be accessed through a tab on your user profile, which is found by clicking on your name in the 'Current Watchsection' module after you log in.

Familygrams are site newsletters that are sent periodically to your email. You can subscribe or unsubscribe using the Familygram module at the top of the left column on the Quarterdeck or P.O.D. pages. There is currently only one Familygram subscription, though in the past we have had a subscription for a newsletter especially for REGROUPEX 09. In the Familygram module, you can also choose to receive the Familygram as HTML or plain text - most mail readers handle HTML today, so you only need to choose plain text if you are having problems with your mail program reading the newsletters.

You can view the archive of past newsletters through a button on your Familygram tab on your user profile, or by clicking the Familygram category link in the Familygram module.

The second instance of subscriptions is a little more complicated. It shows up under your Forum tab in your user profile.

Whenever you post in the Scuttlebutt forum, a link to your posting is created here, so you or others can go directly to postings by you.

As another benefit of posting, you are automatically subscribed to that particular forum thread, which means that anytime anyone responds to that thread or posts on it, you will be notified by email that the thread has been modified. This is super cool and a totally painless method for keeping track of your threads without having to log in every day.

If you would like to follow a thread without posting or commenting on it, go to the bottom of the thread and there will be a button that says Subscribe, or Unsubscribe if you are already following the thread. Additionally, you can unsubscribe to a thread by looking at your subscription list on the Forum tab in your user profile.

Remember, all this is to make it easier to keep track of Scuttlebutt threads of interest by emailing you automatically when they are updated.
